Just One More Day to SPIT 2013

Tomorrow at 10:00 in the morning, the CBS Wine team will sit down at our designated table at Maison Bollinger and fight for the pride of Copenhagen Business School.

On the condition that the city of Aÿ in Champagne has cell phone coverage, we will tweet and status-update the results of the competition on @CBSWine and the CBS Wine Facebook page as we go along.

In the past months, countless bottles have been opened, glasses poured and stopwatches used to time our speed, accuracy and communication. We feel we have come a long way as a team.

Peter, Rasmus and I will arrive at Bollinger with confidence that we are prepared for the challenges of the day. The three of us are like T-shaped management consultants. We combine broad, general wine knowledge with specialized knowledge to complement each others expertise. We are ready for this.

How the Competition Will Progress

14 schools from the UK, France, Switzerland and Denmark (that’d be us) enter the competition.

The following is how the competition was set up last year. We expect to be confronted with something similar.

Preliminary Round

– Quiz about wine history, wine production, grapes, botanical diseases, famous quotes etc. (13 points)

– Quiz about Champagne (18 points)
– Blind tasting of Champagne (22 points)

– Quiz about white wine (18 points)
– Blind tasting of white wine (22 points)

– Quiz about red wine (18 points)
– Blind tasting of red wine (22 points)

The maximum score is 133 points.

The 3 best teams move on to the finale.

Finale

– Three teams are presented with two wines poured in glasses. One is a Champagne, the other is a red wine.
– Each team has 10 minutes to come up with an oral presentation of each of the two wines.
– The presentation must be concluded with a guess as to what each wine is. This means country, region, wine estate and vintage.

The jury will retire to deliberate after the presentations and the final decision will be given in the gardens of Maison Bollinger.

Later, we go nuts in Paris.
